I Can’t Breathe

Those were his words

George Floyd,

Who was he?

Just a black man

Who went shopping at the deli

But treated like a criminal

Like he committed a first degree felony.

Accused of writing a fake check

Cost him a knee

to the neck.

Wish I didn’t have to point out

the skin color

Because we all bleed the same.

But let’s be real

This was a white on black hate.

It’s a shame.

That cop was blocking Floyd’s jugular vein

He couldn’t get enough

Blood flow to his brain

That cop knew too well

He was causing more than just pain.

Murdering a black man

Because he was black

Is this some type of pathetic game?

What a terrible shame!!!

Yet we continue to claim

That everyone is equal in this nation

But black men

are never treated the same.

I can’t breathe

Those were his words

And the words of many

George Floyd,

Say his name

Loud and clear

You will not die in vein.
